Why Japan and South Korea?
Japan is the world’s second largest market for medical devices with roughly 10% of worldwide revenue.
The Japanese government regards the life sciences industry as one of the key industries to lead Japan’s future economic growth. It aims to expand the market (pharmaceuticals, medical devices and regenerative medicine) by approximately 30 percent - from USD 120 billion to USD 160 billion by 2020.
The South Korean medical devices market is the 11th largest in the world with the market size of GBP 2.8 billion.
UK was ranked in 7th in medical devices imports in 2013, with GBP 31 million of goods imported into South Korea alone.
