Life Sciences Market Visit to Japan

Express your interest in attending our Life Sciences Mission to Japan in February 2014 focusing on cancer

Japan is the world’s 2nd largest healthcare market in terms of medical expenditures (£249 billion) as well as supplies of drugs (£63 billion) and medical devices (£16 billion). A further continuous growth is anticipated due to its ageing demographics and implementation of innovative medicines and treatments.

Cancer has long been the leading cause of death in Japan. According to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), more than 350,000 people (i.e. 29% of all death incl. disease and accident) died of cancer in 2011, and the number of cancer related deaths has been increasing much faster compared to any other diseases. MHLW enacted the Cancer Control Act in 2007 to improve the situation from prevention through diagnosis / therapy at hospitals/home to palliative care, spending a total of £2.4 billion on cancer control.

Both pharmaceutical and healthcare industries regard cancer as one of their core therapeutic areas and there are imperative high demands for innovative technology licensing, product imports and investment.
